Dear friends and collectors,
September finds me in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the WDAA World Championship Show with my horse, Lark. We’ll be competing over the next seven days, and I appreciate all the good thoughts and encouragement as we head into competition this week.
I’ll save those stories for another time, because this month I want to look back at West: Reimagined and share some photographs from the exhibition and opening night. Most of all, I want to thank everyone who came out and made the show such a success!
I hope you enjoy this look back.
Warmly,
Kathryn
Musings: When the Paintings Come Together
For months, and in some cases years, the paintings in West: Reimagined lived individually in my studio. Seeing them together at Blue Rain Gallery gave me a rare opportunity to experience them as a complete body of work.
That moment is brief. As paintings leave for collectors and the exhibition comes down, this particular group will never exist together in quite the same way again. I find myself learning from the work while I have that opportunity—seeing relationships between paintings that I couldn’t necessarily see while I was making them.
The show also reminded me how much art depends on being seen in person. We see so much on screens now, but painting is physical. Scale, surface, brushwork, color, presence—all of those things are part of the experience of standing in front of a painting.
So thank you to everyone who showed up, spent time with the paintings, collected, encouraged, and celebrated with me. After more than 35 years of painting professionally, I don’t take that for granted.
Thank you for being there and experiencing the work in person. It mattered, and I’m glad we had the chance to share it.

Three magpies cut through open air, their quick energy catching the light like a conversation mid-flight. Painted instinctively, it came together almost backward—birds first, sky later, and somehow found its own harmony.
