November Newsletter

Dear friends and collectors,

Winter’s short days have settled over Santa Fe, and the low slant of light transforms the mesas each morning—a reminder of how swiftly the seasons shift. This quieter time always draws me back to the essence of my practice: painting for the sheer love of it and reflecting on the long arc of a life in art.

This month, though, I’m far from the high desert—spending time with my family along Georgia’s coastal shores. The hush of the marshes, sway of live oaks, and shimmer of dolphins have offered new inspiration and a slower rhythm. Between walks on the beach (and a few indulgent seafood meals!), I’ve been sketching and gathering ideas for future work.

In this issue, you’ll find photos from my travels, a few Blue Rain Gallery show announcements, and a musing on what it means to make art across a lifetime. Soon, I’ll be heading west again—first to southern New Mexico’s desert country, then to Tucson, AZ, with some fresh paintings for Medicine Man Gallery.

Happy Thanksgiving Season to you and yours,

Kathryn

I’m delighted to be part of the annual Blue Rain Miniature Show, opening later this month. This exhibition is always one of my favorites—an intimate celebration of small-scale works that invite viewers to step closer and experience each brushstroke up close.

I look forward to seeing familiar faces at the opening and sharing this special evening with fellow gallery artists and collectors!

Offered through Blue Rain Gallery

I’m happy to announce the release of my 2026 Fine Art Calendar, available now through Blue Rain Gallery! The calendar features twelve of my paintings—one for each month—celebrating my work over the years.

This calendar is a beautiful way to live with art all year long, or to share the gift of the West with others.

Musings: The Lifelong Timeline of Art

Recently, I came across another artist’s words that resonated with me: the idea that every painting takes as long as you’ve been alive. It’s a funny question, really—“How long does it take to make a painting?” The truth is, it takes all the years of experience and all the diverse moments of life that filter through us.

As I’m currently on a bit of a trip—both literally and figuratively—it’s those contrasting experiences that enrich our work in ways we can’t always predict. Each journey, whether across landscapes, cultures, or within ourselves, becomes part of the creative thread that connects one painting to the next.
