From The Studio - February

Dear friends and collectors,

As February unfolds, I’m delighted to welcome you to this month’s newsletter. In the musings section, I reflect on being a painter who also collects—sharing some personal thoughts about what collecting means to me. I’m also thrilled to announce that my paintings along with fellow Blue Rain Gallery artists are currently on view at Intersect Palm Springs. I’m looking forward to my upcoming shows this year and a bit of travel on the horizon. I can’t wait to bring you along for the journey!

Warmly,
Kathryn

Intersect, Palm Springs

Proud to be included in this year’s show in Palm Springs. Blue Rain Gallery had a great looking booth and all the artists enjoyed a splendid showing.

Musings: Painting and Collecting

Yes, as a painter and artist, I also collect. Recently, I encountered a painting that surprised me. It lay outside my usual themes, yet something about it—a sense of deep history, an old-school, painterly quality—spoke to me immediately. The brushwork, the age, the quiet presence of it all—it was as if I could feel its past.

What surprised me most was not just admiration, but a sense of responsibility—like I was becoming a custodian, not just an owner. Collecting, for me, has always been an emotional call. It’s not just about the intellectual allure; it’s about preserving a moment, anchoring it in time, and feeling a personal connection. Sometimes, a piece I collect ties me to a place or a moment in my life, weaving itself into my own story.

As I reflect, I see that every work I choose: painting, photography or sculpture, is a dialogue—a bridge between the past, the present, and the unfolding of my individual narrative. I’m curious—what inspires you to collect and what does collecting mean to you?

Thank you for following along on this journey!

I’m deeply grateful for your continued support and enthusiasm. Please feel free to share this newsletter with friends who enjoy paintings and art, and connect with me on social media for studio updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses.
