The desert is a constant source of inspiration for me. I seek to capture its raw elegance in the rapidly changing light, vast distances, rugged escarpments, colorful mesas, and hidden arroyos—to excavate the bones of existence in this terrain where the West is still wild and free….
What is important to me, is that I feel the viewer must see the hand of the artist. I’m not concerned with realism. I’m also not concerned with an accurate representation of a scene. I’m a painter’s painter, meaning for me it is about the paint, about that expression, what a place feels like rather than what it looks like. I love the idea of a painting going from the eye to the hand, no brain interference, it’s just what comes through me.
